Lisa! Congrats on getting a Maker!! It really is overwhelming at first, so you’re not alone!! My suggestion would be to pick a project from the Cricut Design Space projects. It will walk you through what to do, what materials you need, etc. I also have several friends who are Cricut masters and they’ve made courses for beginners. I’d be happy to send their info your way!
