Vodka Pie Crust

Create a flaky, delicious pie crust with your secret ingredient: Vodka! 

Servings 2 pie crusts


  • 2 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 TB sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 8 TB shortening cut into 4 and chilled
  • 12 TB butter cut into 1/4 inch pieces and chilled
  • 1/4 cup vodka chilled
  • 1/4 cup ice water


  1. Process 1 1/2 cup flour, sugar, and salt in a food process until combined. 

  2. Scatter butter and shortening over top. 

  3. Continue to process until mixed and begins to form uneven clumps - no floury bits. 

  4. Scrape bowl ; add remaining flour

  5. Pulse until mixture is broken into pieces and evenly distributed. 

  6. Transfer to a bowl.

  7. Sprinkle vodka and water over flour mixture. 

  8. Press with a stiff rubber spatula until it sticks. 

  9. Divide in 2. 

  10. Put each dough on a sheet of plastic wrap and flatten into a 4 inch disk. 

  11. Wrap tightly; refrigerate 1 hour. 

  12. Before rolling, let soften slightly (approximately 15 minutes)

  13. Roll out - dough will be sticky!

  14. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes. 

  15. Fill with desired filling. Refrigerate. 

  16. *IF you wanted to use this vodka pie crust recipe for a savory pie, do not pre-bake the crust. Place filling into an unbaked pie crust and bake it all until cooked through.
