Back to School – Vintage Book

I’m a SUCKER for things that are school related and vintage. You may remember a certain vintage wreath I did last year? Fragile, sparkly, delicate, and lovely. So as we’re gearing back into school mode, I couldn’t help myself. I went back into vintage mode and made: A vintage book.

Let me explain why I love this project SO much:

1. I’m a teacher – and therefore, a hoarder and collector at heart. Try as I might, some things I simply CANNOT throw away. So when I saw these thick, glossy, papers (they’re pretty dang big, yo) I couldn’t THROW THEM AWAY! They were too darling.

2. I used to teach resource – to those of you who have no idea what I’m saying, it’s for students with disabilities in a certain area (reading, writing, math, etc). They would come to my classroom for a few minutes each day and then return to their regular education classroom for the remainder of the day.

My POINT? When I was in that teaching position, I learned how CRUCIAL nursery rhymes were – and starting at a VERY young age. It is important for a child to hear a song, recognize the rhyming, and notice the patterns – this will help with reading, phonemic awareness, etc. Crazy cool.

I was considering framing these cards, and then I saw the back. Wouldn’t you know it? NURSERY RHYMES. I was ecstatic.

So naturally, the only choice was to make SOME kind of book – a vintage book – to help my little learn some nursery rhymes and be awesome. Obviously.

It is SLIGHTLY fragile, but it’s a freaking vintage book – of course it’s going to be a tad delicate. The pages are a bit wobbly, but again, I know what I’ve gotten myself into.

And the ribbon! Oh the ribbons I could die. Yes, I wanted to murder someone while I was tying these dumb things on – How FREAKING hard is it to TIE A KNOT?! Apparently, very hard. Bless my soul.

Plus, my darling friend Emily from The Benson Street had this genius idea to do a “Back to School” blog hop. Since school is RAPIDLY approaching (yikes!) I jumped at the opportunity! And be sure to check out the other fun Back to School ideas HERE!
