Tower of Terror 10 Miler

Soooo… a few months ago I had this crazy idea that we needed to do a Disney Run. The next one I thought was do-able was the Tower of Terror 10 miler in Florida. I double checked with Handsome that we could make it happen, and just like that, we were scheduled for a 10 mile run. Through Disney World. Are you kidding me? I was so excited – but it was a long ways off, so in the meantime we trained.

Now, to some of you that are awesome runners, 10 miles might not be anything huge. I’ve never been a runner, so for me (and Handsome) this was a big deal.

We’d booked our trip so far in advance that it seemed like it wasn’t ever going to happen. Lo and behold – the time finally did arrive. We dropped T off with a friend and she hung out and had a little sleepover.

The race started at 10PM and before it even started the race … we were sweating. Thank you Florida humidity! Thank goodness for my Swoob sports bra! It literally saved my life and kept my tunes playing!

The starting line had quite the display – fireworks, an announcer, and lights that went off after every “heat” set off. Since we didn’t know our 10 mile “qualifying time” we were sent to the back. We obviously weren’t worried and spent our time taking selfies and people watching.

TTTM2
We kept a good 11:00 mile pace. Handsome kept apologizing for “holding me back” but I think it was a good thing that he had a nice steady pace. (Pretty sure I would’ve started too strong and ended super weak). I love the picture comparison – first: RIGHT after crossing the finish line. second: after a few minutes and a couple Gatorades later!

TTTM3
Same deal – first one is right after the race and we are DRENCHED. Second one is a few minutes later in front of the Tower of Terror.

TTTM4
What do you do when you’re exhausted (because you’ve just run the Tower of Terror 10 Miler) and it’s the wee hours of the morning? Ride Aerosmith’s Rock ‘n’ Roller coaster over and over and over – OF COURSE!

TTTM5
We finished in just under 2 hours and played in the park until about 3AM. Oh yeah – you best believe the Hollywood Studios Park was open! Until 4AM! It was radical. I loved the Tower of Terror 10 Miler – Handsome is convinced he’s hanging up his running shoes. We’ll just see about that….
